Our story

The people behind the lessons.

We're Amanda and Sean - two homeschool parents from just outside Edmonton, Alberta, who have been around kids our entire adult lives. We met as cabin leaders at Bible camp (we know, we know), we've been youth leaders in our communities, and we've homeschooled our four kids - our son and our three girls - exclusively, from the start.

We take learning seriously. Sean takes board games possibly more seriously than that. The collection has opinions about shelf space.

I (Amanda) came to homeschooling the long way around - I was a public school kid until grade 10, when I finally convinced my parents to bring me home. The last straw was colouring a map of Canada. I was fifteen. It wasn't enough, and I knew it.

We started gameschooling because it worked. The games were already on the table, the kids were already learning - but every time we went looking for structured lesson plans to go with it, we came up empty. Lists of games, sure. Vague suggestions about what you might explore with them. But nothing that took it the rest of the way into something real and easy to follow. So we built our own - and we know firsthand what that costs in time and effort. We wanted something we could hand to a parent and have them feel ready.

Our whole philosophy fits in a sentence: how to learn, not what to learn. The games teach the rest - and the bonus is, board games are fun!

That's us and that's Board & Quill. ♥
